Henmobile

Jim has been building a most wonderful mobile hen house. Last year, a mink and an ermine took turns killing our hens. By the time we found someone to take the flock, there were only 4 hens left of the original 15 and the rooster. We kept hoping we could chase the beasties off or catch them in the havaheart trap but weasels are well…weaselly and just plain nasty. They kill for the fun of it…just biting heads and pulling them off and leaving bodies all over the place. I can deal with killing for survival but this — NO!  So we decided the old house had to be replaced by something weasel-proof.

We’ve been henless for quite some time — the thinking being that if we didn’t have anything interesting around, the weasel types would move on. I started some day old chicks awhile back and now they’re mature enough to go into their new home. I feel like I should mention here, just in case it isn’t obvious, that these are the kinds of projects that keep Jim away from the lathe. Sorry about that…
