A new breed association for Coopworth sheep offers shepherds
the option of registering their animals either using the historic
Coopworth performance-based criteria OR the more common pedigree/parentage-based
system.

The
Maine Spinners Registry - Besides its beautiful
rockbound coast, square miles upon miles of piney forest, boiling
pots full of lobstah and L.L. Bean, the state of Maine also features
a friendly bunch of spinners. Take a peek at who's where and what's
happening in the Downeast Fiberworld.
of Marengo, IL -- I'm always amazed
at the boxes and boxes and boxes of fiber that Toni
Neil manages to haul to fiber shows -- different rovings that
you don't see anywhere else. Of course, she also carries lot's
of "hard stuff" like wheels, combs and SPINDLES! Toni's
one of the nicest people you'll run into in the Fiber World --
having her teach you to spin must be some FUN! <G> -- The Fold
The Textile Museum is at http://www.textilemuseum.org/
Nov 2006 -- I seem to have lost track of Linda Cunningham's Fiber Resources Page ???-- A non-commercial site, this is (was?) a monster of a fiber resource. Linda compiled a truly awesome amount of info on fiber people and sources both on and off line. MANY MANY links to websites and e-mail addresses. You'd go to this site with a pocketful of bookmarks and only if you had hours of free time!
Ron Parker's "Ron's
Fiber Home" -- I haven't learned all the particulars
yet. But, this guy Ron, in Sweden, has compiled a major info resource
for fiberists everwhere. In Sweden!
Spindlitis! --
the mailing list: Naturally, Teri couldn't just do
a website, she also hosts a mailing list that goes out under the
same Spindlitis! moniker. Just imagine! -- a bunch of people from
all over the World who want to talk about spindles! That is MY
kind of place!! <BG> These days the Spindlitis list is hosted
as a "Yahoo Group". Once you've signed up as a member
of "Yahoo Groups", you can join/subscribe to a plethora
of good stuff.Teri Pittman -- I just refer to her as the Queen of Handspindles -- pretty much started it all. She created the original Spindlitis! website almost completely devoted to drop spindles and the nutty spinners that love, use and collect them. But hey, you're here aren't you? There's a fair chance YOU are such a nut yourself! <BG>
Teri's evolving, you can check in on her at Spindlitis.com
Spindlers -- website & mailing list
is the second handspindlers
hangout -- second only in the sense in that it hasn't
been around as long as Spindlitis. Spindle-nut Stasia Wussow has
created this whole shebang. Who's counting, but late in 2006 this
list has almost 3,000 members!
Pumpkinspun Fiber Designs -- just heard from Sadelle Ann Wiltshire! She advises,"..... yes the earrings will be making a return early next year I got caught up with life for a few years, plus a full time job in web design." Sadelle makes the neatest spindle earrings AND she's a very nice nut! I'd suggest keeping an eye on her website -- when she's back up and running her little pretties will be worth a look! Hopefully we'll again be seeing her at the S&W festivals -- treating us to Franco-Canadian fiddling....hope she's been practicing!
Halcyon Yarn
-- Another good place to start a search for something...ANYTHING!
The ladies at Halcyon are telephone-order experts -- you're not
just "call #123 being processed".
VISIT Halcyon Yarn in person! A skidzillion cones
of yarn --wool, cotton, silk, etc etc --
OH !! THE COLORS !! -- Meet the owner, Halcyon Blake --
honest! Hatchtown Farm is only 35 minutes further up the coast!
Sheep Breeds
at Oklahoma State University's website. This MUST be the most
linked to site amongst the fiber-websites. Find out about the
particular ovine that grew the roving you have stuffed under your
dining room table! Color pictures, histories, fleece spec's.
The Woodweb -- Everything and anything for the "wood enthusiast"! Info on sustainable harvesting issues and organizations. ....And of course, where to find all those power tools that us guys just LOVE.
WWW dot oggi e domani dot COM
.....is currently offline...check back!
(that's "today and tomorrow"...in
Italian)
Our friend Sigrun Mueller is a German artist & designer who's lived a good portion of her life in places like Italy and Manhattan. For a few years she lived just down the road from Hatchtown Farm in the "condo barn" (that's a big old barn that was gutted and re-born with 5 condominium units). ...anyway... Sigrun's now down in CT -- hoping she'll have her website ag.ain open for business sooner than later
Public Television -- If Public Television doesn't do it, who will?
Maine Public Radio -- This is what I listen to in the shop 75% of the time. "Why only 75%, Jim?", you ask. Well, (I answer) a good bit of the classical music doesn't make it "through" the noise of the lathe and dust collector, and I do NOT "do" opera. The other 25% of my listening is done a local oldies station -- Da Doo Ron Ron!
