High Whorl Spindles

UpSide Down Spinimal, Kaari & Amelia

KamlKaarUsDs

The shafts of the Kaari, Amelia and UpSide Down Spinimal start out as long thin rectangles of hardwood — usually exotic. On the lathe, I shave the corners off these “turning squares” and soon uncover the graceful, tapered shaft hiding therein. Their whorls are usually turned from wood/wood laminations — sometimes a single solid wood. The spindles are topped off with a hand-shaped brass hook.
